Current Processes

FSC provides opportunities for stakeholder participation in all development and review and revision processes of normative documents and informs about ongoing processes.

International Generic Indicators

To facilitate the implementation of the FSC Principles and Criteria Version 5 (P&C V5), the FSC Board of Directors instructed the FSC Secretariat to develop a set of International Generic Indicators (IGIs).

Controlled Wood Revision

The Controlled Wood standards system is currently revised in response to the FSC Membership Motion 51 at the June 2011 General Assembly.

Chain of Custody standard revision

The Chain of Custody (COC) certification standard FSC-STD-40-004 is the main standard for companies that manufacture, process or trade in timber and non-timber forest products.

General Accreditation Standard

FSC-STD-20-001 provides the general accreditation requirements for certification bodies (CBs) operating FSC certification programs, and is the normative basis for all types of FSC accreditation.

Indicators and Thresholds / Pesticide Derogation Procedure

The revision of the Indicators and Thresholds for the identification of ‘highly hazardous’ pesticides has been completed.
The Pesticide Derogation Procedure is under revision and has been submitted for decision.

Advice Note for the evaluation of Nurseries

This Advice Note has been drafted to integrate the proposal for nurseries agreed by the P&C Working Group into the FSC Normative Framework.

Local adaptation of Generic Standards

FSC-STD-20-002 (V3-0) needs to be revised to reflect the stakeholder decision to phase-out Generic Forest Stewardship Standards and to provide CBs with a new set of requirements on how to use the IGIs and how to adapt them in a certification process.

FSC Modular Approach Program (MAP)

FSC’s Modular Approach Program (MAP) is an emerging initiative aimed at providing a structured path to achieve FSC certification by verifying defined steps, starting from the legal right to harvest to full FSC certification.

Applicable national and local laws and regulations (consultation period closed)

FSC is seeking stakeholder feedback on proposed amendments to three separate FSC Advice Notes that cover ‘Applicable National and Local Laws and Regulations’ in the application of a number of FSC Standards and Procedures.
