FSC at COP21

The 21th UN Climate Change Conference (COP 21) will be one of the most important global events of the decade. Taking place from 30 November to 11 December in Paris, France, COP 21 is expected to produce a global agreement on climate change.

In the run-up to COP21, FSC France has prepared a manifesto calling on the attending governments to take firm and effective decisions concerning the world’s forests, by making clear and transparent commitments to an ambitious reductions in CO2 emissions which include the forestry and land-use sectors.

During this COP, FSC will be organizing a myriad of events and activities in support of this manifesto, and to raise awareness of and advocate for forests in climate change policy.

Forests, climate change, and FSC

Halting deforestation and forest degradation are necessary elements of a successful global agenda to prevent the planet passing the 2⁰C temperature increase seen as the turning point for dangerous climate change. Maintaining forest cover and ensuring its quality through sustainable forest management both belong on this agenda.
