New International Generic Indicators (IGIS) are Effective Immediately

Effective 1 July 2018 are a set of international generic indicators (IGIs) that address the International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions principles; intact forest landscapes; free, prior, and informed consent (FPIC); ecosystem services; and transaction verification.

Standard setters are required to incorporate all new IGIs into their respective processes to develop national forest stewardship standards where a second consultation has not taken place. If your national forest stewardship standard has been approved, the new IGIs would have to be incorporated by 30 June 2020. Seven of our 10 principles for responsible forest management have new or amended indicators.
