Reminder: Transaction Verification Details Must Be Submitted by 28 February for Charcoal Supply Chain

Tuesday, 8 January 2019

The final deadline for all certificate holders in the charcoal supply chain to submit their details for mandatory transaction verification for quarters 3 and 4 of 2018 is on 28 February 2019.

Do the requirements apply to your business?

All businesses required to perform transaction verification for charcoal-related transactions will be notified directly by their certification body with clear instructions about timelines and requirements.

Why does FSC collect transaction verification?

Because of allegations about the integrity of the FSC-certified charcoal product type, investigations were initiated to determine the extent of the problem within the charcoal supply chain.

An investigation by Accreditation Services International revealed some volume mismatches between trading partners, and as a result, several certificates were suspended or terminated.

Because of these findings, it was determined that transaction verification and mandatory traditional wood anatomy testing should be implemented for the charcoal supply chain.

Transaction details must be submitted for 2018 quarters three and four.
