Consultation on Risk-Based Approaches for Forest Management Certification
Friday, 17 May 2019
A public consultation on streamlining forest management certification by incorporating risk-based approaches was launched on 17 May. FSC asks stakeholders to give their feedback by 16 July 2019.
Included as part of this consultation are a series of documents developed over the last 2 years. Collectively the documents provide an integrated and comprehensive proposal for how FSC might make the forest management standards more cost effective and outcome oriented. Stakeholder input is sought to amend and inform the further development of the concept.
The public consultation consists of the following documents:
- An overview document introducing the topic and consultation documents
- A procedure for Standard Development Groups to incorporate a risk-based approach in National Forest Stewardship Standards and an accompanying guideline. Both documents have already been published and are available for use.
- Proposals for how to incorporate risk-based approaches in the FSC accreditation requirements, on addressing risks outside of the FSC normative framework and on monitoring and evaluating impacts are included in a draft discussion paper.
For additional information please refer to the specific process page on the FSC website.
We will be hosting webinars for stakeholders to learn more about the consulted documents. Please register below.
