On 17 December 2012, FSC approved the National Controlled Wood Risk Assessment for Italy with immediate effect.

The risk assessment has been conducted at the country level for Controlled Wood category 1 (Illegally Harvested Wood) and 3 (Wood harvested from forest in which high conservation values are threatened by management activities).  It is applicable for companies seeking to identify risks of sourcing Controlled Wood from forests in Italy for Company Evaluation of FSC Controlled Wood (FSC-STD-40-005 Version 2-1).

Companies that have already conducted risk assessments for forests in Italy will have a period of up to 12 months after the effective date to align their CW program to the new requirements.

FSC accredited certification bodies are responsible for informing their clients of the changes.

The risk assessment will be uploaded to the Global Forest Registry. The FSC Global Forest Registry is an online tool providing companies with easy access to available public information in more than 150 countries.

The approved document can be accessed here.
