Join FSC at COP 19!
The 19th UN Climate Change Conference (COP 19) starts next Monday 11 November in Warsaw, Poland, running until 22 November. FSC will be prominent at COP 19, attending the conference as an advocate for forests in the arena of climate change policy.
FSC will host several events targeted at maintaining awareness of approaches to forestry that mitigate climate change. It will also be working to raise the profile of pioneering work on landscape-based approaches to carbon markets that it is carrying out with two other organizations, The Gold Standard and Fairtrade International. Join us for regular news and updates from COP 19 on fsc.org, Facebook and Twitter.
On Thursday 14 November FSC, The Gold Standard and Fairtrade International will hold an official COP Side Event, ‘Leading Trends in Results-based Finance for Climate, Environment and Development.’ They will show how they are working collaboratively at the forefront of this exciting new area, helping to scale up and attract new sources of finance, and provide much-needed investor confidence.
FSC will also be present on 16 November at the first CIFOR Global Landscape Forum, which is dedicated to developing the potential application of landscape-based approaches to climate change policy and the proposed Sustainable Development Goals. FSC, The Gold Standard and Fairtrade International will work together again to run an interactive Technical Session at the Forum on ‘Certifying Ecosystem Services in Forestry and Agriculture: Ensuring genuine MRV and social & environmental integrity at a landscape level’
At the Technical Session, the partners will present their joint vision and approach to certifying ecosystem services, as well as sharing practical, on-the-ground experience. They will explore the development of monitoring, reporting and verification systems for emissions reduction and social and environmental benefits, also looking at results-based financing mechanisms, the combination of multiple activities, scalability, and the value of non-carbon attributes for certifying ecosystem services in different types of land use.
As well as organizing these events, FSC will also have information booths at the Official COP 19 Venue (11–15 November) and at the Global Landscape Forum (16–17 November).
