Ambitious targets on FSC certified dairy packaging in the UK
The recently published UK Dairy Roadmap Environmental Sustainability Report includes an ambitious target for achieving FSC certification and labeling for at least 80 percent of dairy carton packages in the United Kingdom by 2015. Ultimately the sector aims to achieve 100 per cent of carton dairy packages in the UK to carry the FSC label in 2020.
The Dairy Roadmap was developed by bringing together the whole UK dairy supply chain – farmers, food manufacturers and retailers – to agree on a broad program for environmental sustainability, with clear and specific targets.
The beverage carton industry, represented by ACE UK (the Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment), is a member of the Dairy Roadmap Taskforce. Richard Hands, Chief Executive of ACE UK, says: “We are happy to sign up to this commitment, alongside the ultimate aim of having 100 percent of carton packages in dairy carrying the FSC label by 2020. We will be working closely with our customers and the retailers to achieve this.” ACE UK’s member companies are Tetra Pak, SIG Combibloc and Elopak.
