V Brazil Certificado trade fair, a success for FSC
V Brazil Certificado, Brazil’s leading sustainability certification trade fair, ended this week, with excellent attendance and high-quality exhibitions making the event a resounding success.
FSC shared a large booth with the other event organizers and participated in activities such as hosted meetings.
FSC also presented its first donation from the Smallholder Fund for Certified Brazil in the form of a sponsored booth.
The booth was created by IMAFLORA and showcased five FSC certified communities from the Amazon and their major products.
This booth was an excellent opportunity for networking, with many buyers meeting with the communities to look for new products—especially non-timber forest products such as nuts, essential oils, handy crafts, and fragrances.
The State of Acre also had a very impressive booth at the fair.
They showcased their sustainable forest industry and highlighted the successful FSC certification of many of their forest companies.
The booth also displayed beautiful furniture and wooden objects made by Iiba, a company that uses the branches of harvested trees (which would otherwise be wasted) to create objects of high artisanal quality.
They use 100% FSC certified wood from the forests certified under the FM/CoC certificate of Cooperfloresta - a cooperative of FSC certified communities.
Two sessions in particular, the Forest Finance Breakfast and Financing Sustainable Forest Management in the Amazon: Challenges and Opportunities were an excellent opportunity for in-depth discussion about the role of certification in contributing to an enabling investment environment and acting as a benchmark for high environmental and social standards in forest management around the world.
Both events were very well attended by major banks and financial institutions.
