FSC stakeholder survey of related hardware, software and data

Transparent ForestsTransparentForests is an FSC project to design and evaluate a web based GIS platform, employing GIS (Geographical Information Systems), GPS (covers both the US Global Positioning System and Russian Global Navigation Satellite System GNSS) and EO (Earth Observation includes satellite and airborne mapping) technologies, to support forest management certification.

As it will rely on these rapidly emerging technologies, a survey was carried out across all FSC stakeholder groups to get a baseline of the extent to which the technologies were already deployed and used, or stakeholder plans to adopt them.

The summary of the responses received from all stakeholders who provided feedback on the extent to which satellite mapping, GPS and GIS is currently used for certification and audit purposes is now available here.

Anonymous reports (as pdf reports) for the three respondent groups are also available at the following links:

The questionnaire and reports are divided into three separate subject groups:

  • Use of GIS software
  • Use of GPS technology
  • Use of Earth Observation and Remote Sensing data
