Digitalizing the FSC system and services
As an important part of our global strategy to shift the face of forestry worldwide, FSC will add digital-based supporting tools to its certification products prior to 2023. Our aim is to develop digital options in our certification system; these option will both increase credibility and lower the costs of certification.
We do this because our credibility – the promise behind the label – is a fundamental principle and value of who we are, how we work, and what we stand for. Equally important will be to lower the cost and administrative burden of certification, for us to stay relevant for our customers around the globe.
We will be exploring, engaging stakeholders, and testing core themes like
- Simplified but traceable solutions for traders and brokers
- Earth observation tools
- Wood identification methods (primarily isotope testing and fibre testing),
- Digital audit reports
- Tools to attract and maintain investments in certified forest areas
- Consumer- and business-facing tools to easily find suppliers of a needed product
…and many more.
We are inviting you to help us innovate
At FSC openness and transparency are at the heart of our organization; both in the way the FSC system is built and, in the tools we will be developing.
We will follow the Open Data Charter to ensure maximum interoperability for our stakeholders.
Furthermore, FSC is leading an ISEAL funded project to develop an information and data standard for sustainability with the aim to ensure that sustainability information and data have the highest level of transparency and can be used by stakeholders to provide continuous improvements and innovations through digital technologies.
We trust our community of certificate holders, members and business partners will help us as we move forward, both with positive encouragement and critical constructive input. Involvement of our stakeholders is key to the success of FSC’s digital journey!
