Baboon Population Control - South Africa

Stakeholder complaints beginning in December 2010 relate to the culling of baboons in FSC-certified plantations. Baboons are not protected by law in South Africa and, as baboon damage to trees has increased over the past thirty years, so has the cull rate. Recognizing the need to take conservation and welfare considerations into forest management the Baboon Damage Working Group (BDWG) was established to examine management methods.
