700th Belgian FSC Chain of Custody certificate for Antwerp-based enterprise KUNNIG
The Antwerp-based socio-economic enterprise KUNNIG recently became the 700th Belgian company to receive FSC Chain of Custody (CoC) certification. They joined over 25 000 companies worldwide with CoC certification, enabling them to sell FSC certified products with the necessary guarantees.
KUNNIG employs 180 workers with disabilities and works with both wood and paper products. The FSC CoC certificate was obtained especially for the activities of the carpentry department, where a wide range of customized products are manufactured at the request of customers. Also the activities from their ‘handling’ department, which specializes in the finishing and binding of books and other print materials could benefit from the FSC CoC certification.
"Given the nature of our activities, Corporate Social Responsibility is deeply rooted in our company culture," says KUNNIG’s CEO Pascale Innocent, "and obtaining an FSC CoC certificate fits perfectly in that. The step to achieving FSC CoC certification was taken at the request of some of our customers, and certification was gained after a training course given by FSC Belgium.”
The number of Belgian companies with FSC CoC certification is growing steadily in absolute terms, involving both smaller enterprises with few employees and larger companies.
"Despite the economic crisis, we see that the number of Belgian companies with FSC CoC certification continues to increase," says FSC Belgium’s Director Bart Holvoet. "Clearly, the demand for FSC certified wood and paper products is on the rise, which incentivizes forest managers to pursue FSC certification."
