The pulp and paper sector is currently the key driver of FSC certification in Russia and FSC certified pulp and paper concessions account for almost two-thirds of all FSC certified forests in Russia.
FSC Director General Andre de Freitas, Business Development Director Marcelle Peuckert, FSC CIS Regional Office Director Andrei Ptichnikov, and Susan Bernstein from FSC BDU were present at the event.
During the conference, FSC organized an exhibition and made two presentations.
Many CEOs and senior staff from the Russian pulp and paper sector obtained valuable information from Andre de Freitas on FSC engagement in the new EU Timber Regulation, and other important programs.
Andrei Ptichnikov’s presentation covered the potential of China as a consumer of FSC certified products.
“The conference was an important step” he said, adding that, “We are planning to engage in further Adam Smith conferences and agreed that FSC will be a presenter at the next Russian Wood and Timber Adam Smith conference in Moscow on 27–29 March 2012.”
