A resounding success for the final prize giving of FSC Italy’s design competition. Over 100 people attended the conference "The FSC trademark: the choice for social and environmental responsibility in the world of design and architecture" and visited the exhibition of the 13 winning projects and four prototypes realized by FSC certified companies.

The award ceremony took place at Casa dell’Architettura (House of Architecture), the Aquarium of Rome in the 19th Century, and now the headquarters of the Order of Architects of the city. Each competition winner received a plate made with poplar wood, manufactured by Panguaneta and printed by Almaca, both Italian FSC certified companies. In total, 116 entries were submitted to the demanding competitionand the winning ones were displayed, together with four prototypes realized as a prize for the main winning projects, in an exhibition space designed by the architects of Toolbag Studio.

In the “Young Professionals” category, the first prize went to “Spline”, by Stella Berton, a screen/divider/bookcase consisting of a well-designed series of flexible modules. The prototype of this project was realized by UNO Contract.

The second prize was for “Lulù”, by Mattia Kenneth Sartori, a review of the classical secretaire in a compact and usable version which also included a bookcase and a cabinet, and was designed with a honeycomb system that allows the free passage of the cables. The prototype was realized by Duegi Falegnameria.

Third prize among professionals was “Stick office” by Carmine Sessa, a kind of domestic totem with foldable desk and many solutions to tidy cables and connections, whose prototype was realized by Mobilificio Fattorini.

Among students, the awarded project was “Piolo”, by Michele Perissinotto and Arrigo Bedogni, which consisted of a wooden platform attached to the wall with a series of small shelves for dividing objects. Prototype realized by Courbelements.

All prototypes are FSC certified, inviting designers to think more about the origin of the products used and to promote responsible forestry . FSC Italy looks forward to next year’s event and to the inspiring entries that are sure to come!
