FSC publishes an “EU Timber Regulation Implementation Guide for FSC Certificate Holders and Other Companies Selling FSC Products in the EU”.
On 3 March 2013, the European Union Timber Regulation (EUTR) came into force. Companies importing timber and certain wood products need to apply a due diligence system to reduce the chance that illegal harvested timber is involved.
The Regulation does not give a green lane for voluntary certification schemes, but allows to use such schemes as part of the due diligence system. In a guide, FSC explains how, for FSC certified products and Controlled Wood materials, the FSC scheme indeed forms a valid contribution to due diligence systems. It goes into detail on the specific conditions the EU has put for such schemes, and how FSC complies with its principles and criteria, standards, advice notes and accreditation and verification requirements.
