First FSC-certified beverage packages on the market in Peru
Peru’s first Forest Stewardship Council certified beverage package was launched in February, representing a significant milestone in the country’s move towards responsible packaging materials.
The product launch is a partnership between The Coca-Cola Company and the world's leading food processing and packaging solutions company Tetra Pak. The launch took place at The Redoubt Park in Miraflores in a ceremony which stressed the importance of nature and responsible environmental management.
Choosing FSC certification both ensures that the materials (cardboard and polyethylene green) used to make Coca-Cola carton package nectar brand, Frugos come from responsibly-managed forests and also raises environmental awareness amongst consumers.
"The use of FSC and green polyethylene, which are manufactured from renewable raw materials, are important steps that demonstrate our commitment to supporting our customers and society, with the aim of creating a healthy and sustainable planet", said the Tetra Pak Peru General Manager, Guilherme Franklin.
The launch was attended by government authorities and a large number of print media and television, which covered the launch for over a week. In attendance were Marco Romero (President of FSC Peru), Mariano Castro (Deputy Minister of Environmental Management), Hernan Lanzara (Public Affairs and Communications Manager, Coca-Cola), Guilherme Franklin (CEO, Tetra Pak Peru), Patricia Leon Melgar (Regional Representative, WWF Peru Programme Office) as well as Pina Gervassi (FSC Latin America Regional Director).
This successful launch of this new FSC certified package is the first for Coca-Cola worldwide with the nectar brand, Frugos and is one of the first consumer goods bearing the FSC label in Peru. This is sure to raise FSC’s profile in the region.
