FSC Events at COP 19


FSC hosted several events targeted at maintaining awareness of approaches to forestry that mitigate climate change. It was also working to raise the profile of pioneering work on landscape-based approaches to carbon markets that it is carrying out with two other organizations, The Gold Standard and Fairtrade International.

Leading Trends in Results-based Finance for Climate, Environment and Development

On 14 November, FSC, Gold Standard and Fairtrade International held an official side event at the 19th Conference of the Parties (COP19) in Warsaw. At the event, titled ‘Leading trends in results-based finance for climate, environment and development’, the three organizations showed how they have aligned their system to ensure the adequate stewardship, safeguarding, monitoring and accounting of forest carbon. This is helping to scale up the practices, attract new sources of finance, and provide investors and certified beneficiaries with much-needed confidence.

Technical Session at the Global Landscape Forum:
Certifying Ecosystem Services in Forestry and Agriculture: Ensuring genuine MRV and social & environmental integrity at a landscape level

On 16 November 2013 in Warsaw, FSC, the Gold Standard Foundation and Fairtrade International held a technical session at the Global Landscapes Forum, part of the 19th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. At the session, entitled "Certifying ecosystem services in forestry and agriculture: Ensuring genuine monitoring, reporting and verification and social and environmental integrity at a landscape level," FSC presented its work on ecosystem services as a contribution towards responsible landscape management.
